Course Overview

Build Australia's Telecommunications Networks

This nationally recognised qualification prepares students for entry-level careers constructing and maintaining Australia's telecommunications and broadband infrastructure, including the NBN. Students develop the practical skills required to safely support network build activities on site.

Practical training covers underground cable installation, fibre optic infrastructure, NBN construction, aerial cable installation and a range of network build activities such as site preparation, coaxial cable jointing and lead-in installation.

Graduates are well prepared for entry-level roles across the NBN rollout, broadband access networks and civil telecommunications contractors operating throughout the ACT and NSW.

Licensing & Regulatory Information: Cabling work connected to a telecommunications network in Australia is regulated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). To perform customer cabling work, cablers must hold an appropriate ACMA cabler registration. ICT20219 focuses on network build and operation activities and does not, on its own, satisfy ACMA customer cabling registration requirements. Successful completion of the qualification does not automatically guarantee employment or licensing; occupational and licensing requirements are determined by the relevant regulatory authority.

This qualification suits

  • Aspiring NBN and telecommunications infrastructure workers
  • School leavers pursuing a career in network build and civil telecommunications
  • Career changers moving into broadband infrastructure
  • Cable hauling, jointing and installation trainees
